“We’ll Be There!” JM Tobacco’s Silver Anniversary Coincides with 25 Years of Exhibiting at IPCPR

For Immediate Release :

February 1, 2020

President Anto Mahroukian of family-owned JM Tobacco, Inc., is the son of founder John Mahroukian (1996, Los Angeles, CA).  President Mahroukian relates JM’s initiation into the 1996 (then) RTDA:

“JM was doubly challenged. We were newcomers, surrounded by countless competitors.  Moreover, we were pioneers in ‘value-priced’ premium cigars.  We had to educate retailers and smokers that ours were full equals to traditional brands costing 2-3 times ours.  Soon, customers realized JM’s cigars’ performance belied their MSRP of only $2.00 to $2.50, and justified JM’s

slogan, ‘Your Daily Choice.’  All JM Cigars are hand-rolled from 100% choice, aged tobaccos.  The appeal of their wide spectrum of flavor and strength profiles was enhanced by the bonus of deep savings in manufacturing costs, which we share with our customers.”

Mahroukian’s appraisal of the PCA’s support was concise and pointed, “They never let us down.  They worked consistently and professionally, assisting us personally from our first show (1996) to this day.  The savings in time, effort and expense at the shows were invaluable.  The PCA’s extensive resource library is another bonus

“The PCA and membership took a hard hit recently, when the four largest tobacco companies … Altadis, Davidoff, Drew Estate and General Cigar … abandoned the show.  This forced the PCA to move to the smaller Sands Hotel/Casino Expo Convention Center.  The PCA’s lost revenue curtails the Association’s support programs for PCA’s members.  Other suppliers began offering ‘pre-show special’ discounts to retailers who ordered without attending.  One can imagine the financial stress the PCA and members are suffering with so many empty booths.

“JM will be exhibiting in booth #2255, not only for the show’s exposure of our products, but also to support the PCA for all the association has done for us.  We are grateful and loyal to the PCA for helping us grow into prominence in value-priced premium cigars.  We’ll debut our Churchill Variety 6-Pack, with one each of JM’s best-selling Churchill shape, in six different Dominican and Nicaraguan blends … see separate New Product announcement.  JM will be in booth #2255 from June 28 to July 2, 2020.”

Mahroukian closes with, “For JM’s Golden Anniversary, we plan to exhibit at the 2045 exhibition to share our half-century of solidarity with the PCA!”

JM Tobacco’s New 6 Pack Sampler Shows Why Churchill Is Still #1 With Their Smokers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE :

March 10, 2020

“JM Tobacco’s 6-3/4″ x 50 Churchill remains our most popular shape after 15 years,” explains company president Anto Mahroukian.  “Now, our new JM’s 6 Pack Sampler is making it more attractive for smokers to experience all four of our Dominican and both Nicaraguan blends.”

JM will feature the 6 Pack Samplers in booth #3014 at the Premium Cigar Association’s 2020 trade show, July10-14.  The venue is the Las Vegas Sands Hotel/Casino Expo Convention Center.

Now, cigar lovers can explore all our value-priced Churchill cigars … mild JM’s Connecticut and Sumatra; medium-bodied, sweet Maduro and powerful, full-flavored Corojo.  All JM cigars are 100% hand-made from select, carefully aged leaf, inclujding our epicurean Española and Zoidian long-filler premium cigars.  Española, a favorite with discriminating smokers, was our first and only premium cigar for five years, before we launched our value priced Dominican and Nicaraguan Classic lines.

JM’s Classic value priced cigars are hand-made, using benchtop rolling webs, large-scale versions of popular roll-your-own cigarette webs.   Workers fill and roll the bunch faster and more accurately than with traditional in-the-palm bunching.  This results in cigars with more uniform construction and draw, at significantly lower cost.

The 6 Pack Sampler retails for $25.00, for banded and individually cello-sheathed cigar.  Its flip-top has a window that highlights each cigar’s band.  The cigars’ heads are all pre-punched for convenience.

Mahroukian relates, “Our family-owned business has grown from its founding 25 years ago to a leadership position in value priced cigars, available at over 900 US and foreign retailers.

JM Tobacco Acquires Zoidian Cigar, Introduces All-New Lineup

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE :

July 10, 2017

JM Tobacco, Inc., a Los Angeles, California, provider of premium cigars, has acquired all assets, marketing rights and the Zoidian brand name from George Hafoury, founder andformer owner of theten-year-oldGlendale, California, company.

JM is replacing the original Zoidian selections with an entirely new and different lineup of fourshapes and blends.  They will be made at the same Dominican factory as JM’sextensivevariety ofvalue-priced all-tobacco, handcrafted premium products.  The company is spotlighting Zoidian at IPCPR, as well as JM’s full-premium Española, their first introduction in 1996, which has continued in limited production until now.

JM’s president,Anto Mahroukian, reports, “These Zoidian cigars bridge the gap between ourprincipal JM’s brand of cigars … all retailing forless than$3 … and our flagship Española, at $7-$8.”  Zoidian’s MSRP falls between $4 and $5 for its four classic Cuban shapes … Robusto, Toro, Churchilland 6-3/4″ x 62 Gordo Grande.”

The Zoidian shapes come in Natural (Sumatran) orMaduro(San Andreas, Mexico) wrappers.  The binders are true Connecticut Broadleaf, and the fillers are Cuban seed Dominican leaf.  All tobaccos are well-aged for rich, balanced flavor.  The Natural is a mild-to-medium cigar, while the Maduro is medium-to-full bodied.

Quoting Mahroukian, “JM is noted for its use of Cuban sandwich fillers, which wrap short- and medium-length leaves and remnants (but not chopped) inside one or more long filler leaf(ves).  In addition to maximizing economy, they virtually eliminate burn problems in all our JM’s cigars.  By selecting remnants from top-quality long-filler cigar brands, our flavorand body properties surprise even the most discriminating palates.  Of course, we include Cuban sandwich filler in our Zoidian brand.”

Zoidian’s bundled packaging saves the smokers evenmore, a benefit to those who like more than one smoke a day.  The four shapes are presentedin separate twenty-cigar bundles for Natural and Maduro, except for the Gordo Grande’s sixteen to the bundle.  This totals 152cigars in a “bundle box,” which wholesales for $279 at the show and through September 30, with the cost rising to $299 on October 1 Says Mahroukian: “JM’s motto, due to our value pricing has been ‘Your Daily Choice.’  Now we are adding ‘The Affordable Luxury,’Zoidian’s complementary slogan for their cigars.”  The Zoidian cigar line, like Española will ship on September 1 … all other JM cigars are available currently.

JM Tobacco Celebrates Their 20th Anniversary

FOR RELEASES :

August 15, 2016

John Mahroukian (the “JM” in JM Tobacco, Inc.) enjoyed the birthday cigar his son Anto gave him in 1995 … until he learned its cost.  John, a seasoned cigar smoker, manufactured jewelry in the Dominican Republic.  His appraisal was, “I could offer a better cigar for far less money.”

Today, JM Tobacco has proven that to the cigar world, with JM’s value-priced premium cigars.  In today’s economy, this market segment flourishes, especially with several-a-day smokers.  Anto, a Business Administration graduate, who specialized in Marketing, is now JM’s president.  He handles the marketing and sales of the Los Angeles, California, company; his father oversees the Los Angeles jewelry and reclaimed wood businesses.  This year reflects their success with the family’s broad product line, serving an international cigar clientele.  Their cigars are now all hand-made, using top-quality Central American tobaccos.

To celebrate JM’s growth and health, the Mahroukians will spotlight Española, their first full premium cigar line, introduced in 1996.  This FDA-grandfathered product has enjoyed success, even after the company turned their focus more on value-priced cigars.  It continues with its original three lines … Gold Label, Red Label and Green Label Reserve.  JM is currently filling the last of the previous limited release of Española cigars, and will announce availability of its next full-scale production run.

JM Tobacco’s State-of-the-Art “Sealed-In” Humidity Packs” Offer Extra-Long, Unattended Storage

FOR RELEASE :

January 15, 2014

“Imagine,” states Anto Mahroukian, JM Tobacco’s president, “finding a sealed package of cigars in the bottom of your golf bag, forgotten from last year.  Dried out and unsmokeable?  If they’re our new JM Sealed-In Humidity Packs, you’ll find they’re as fresh as the day you purchased them.

“Sealed-In Humidity Packs feature a unique breakthrough in cigar preservation … food-grade plastic packaging that is impervious to changes in ambient conditions that can cause loss of flavor and aroma through desiccation or mold-producing high humidity.  This innovation involves evacuating each sampler pack, then sealing it.  Additional humidification materials in the packs are unnecessary, because the cigars remain factory fresh for up to a year.”

The sealed packs are opened by tearing off the end, leaving a handy Zip-Loc™ closure.  The packaging material is FDA-approved for storage of bulk foods … grains, etc. … which assures a smooth, flavorful smoke.

The cigars themselves are from the popular JM’s Dominican and Nicaraguan lines.  The Dominican comes in Sumatran Natural or Broadleaf Connecticut Maduro; the Nicaraguan has a Sumatran Natural or San Andreas (Mexican) Maduro.  Each package holds three Churchills, all sharing the same blend.   Manufacturer’s suggested retail pricing is less than $10.  JM Sealed-In Humidity Packs are appearing on tobacco retailers’ shelves at press time.

“Strike Gold” at IPCPR

FOR RELEASES :

June 15, 2011

JM Tobacco, importer and distributor of value-priced premium brand, JM’s Dominican cigar, once again offers IPCPR show attendees the chance to “Strike Gold” in their booth (#2401).  According to Anto Mahroukian, JM’s president, the company is sending out a mailer to all current IPCPR members.  The mailer includes a gold-and-black poker chip affixed to a card with playing instructions and a list of prizes, the grand prize being a 24 karat, solid-gold coin.

Mahroukian explains, “Visitors to our booth can use their poker chip to play a hand of blackjack.  Depending on how many consecutive hands they win before their luck runs out, they receive as much as the grand prize.  The prizes are in accordance with their number of winning hands, with no losers …. everyone walks away with at least a sampling of cigars.  The top prize will go to the attendee who has won the most consecutive hands by the end of the show.

The centerpiece in our booth this year is the new JM’s Dominican Corojo.  The hand-rolled 100% tobacco cigar has a Dominican medium-length filler and Connecticut broadleaf binder, presented in a beautiful Corojo wrapper.”

Company Profile: Family-owned JM Tobacco, Inc. was founded in 1994 by John Mahroukian.  The company sells its natural and flavored premium cigars, plus its new line of JM’s Hookah tobaccos, through retail tobacco stores across the United States and in Europe.  It is based in Los Angeles, California, and imports its cigars from the Dominican Republic.  Mahroukian’s son, Anto, currently serves as company president

“We Have a Winner!” in JM Tobacco’s IPCPR “Strike Gold” Blackjack Contest

FOR RELEASES :

September 10, 2011

JM Tobacco’s president, Anto Mahroukian, has announced the winner of its second IPCPR “Strike Gold” contest.  The winner was Mark Tucci, who, along with his wife, Frances, owns Custom Blends, a York, Pennsylvania, tobacco retailer, franchiser, and distributor.

Mahroukian explains, “Prior to the show, we mailed custom JM Tobacco poker chips to

IPCPR and NATO  members, and existing customers, inviting them to bring their chips to our booth.  There, they could play blackjack against the ‘house’ (that’s us), continuing as long as they won consecutive hands.  There were many multiple-hand winners, but Mark broke all these bridesmaids’ hearts with six straight winning hands.”

Tucci’s prize was a solid half-ounce gold American Eagle coin.  A week before the show, when Mahroukian bought the coin, the New York spot price was $1,600 per troy once.  At the time of writing this release (August 10), spot gold pricing had streaked to $1,800 an ounce.  This gain was not lost on Tucci, a long-term “gold bug.”

The Tuccis have attended RTDA/IPCPR since they created Custom Blends in 1993.  Their stores carry a full spectrum of tobacco products and accessories, except for mainstream cigarettes.  It operates or fanchises 7 stores in Pennsylvania and Virginia, plus  4 retailers, in major U.S. cities.  Custom Blends’ growth and success, in its unique niche, shows a stroke of gambler’s luck, plus Tucci’s business acumen.  He states, “We didn’t rename our RYO/MYO tobaccos ‘pipe tobaccos’ overnight, like so many others.  Now, the FDA is drafting tough new licensing requirements and fees on all these ‘new’ RYO/MYO tobacco suppliers.  We are one of the remaining active suppliers of RYO/MYO you can count on one hand, since being “grandfathered” by the FDA this year.

Mahroukian states the Strike Gold contest provided a strong draw for attendees.  “Many of them, win or lose, were delighted to just have a JM playing chip as a souvenir.  The acceptance and excitement of the Strike Gold contest made it well worthwhile.”

Tucci sums up his experience, explaining, “Winning that coin made me realize the Universe was telling me something about my luck, so I went to the casino and started gambling.  I lost all my money … but, not the Eagle.”

New JM’s Dominican Premium Cigar With Corojo Wrapper Now Ready

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE :

December 21, 2010

JM Tobacco Company, makers of the popular value-priced JM’s Dominican lineup of cigars, now brings their new JM’s Dominican, hand rolled in an extra-select Corojo wrapper.  The all-tobacco cigar has a Dominican medium-length filler and Connecticut broadleaf binder, the latter giving the cigar a delicate, naturally sweet taste.

Anto Mahroukian, president of JM Tobacco, says the company developed the Corojo over several months, “To bring something new to our loyal customers, who have made JM’s Dominican cigars so successful.  The new wrapper brings an entirely different flavor profile, with no tongue bite or bitterness–its strength complements the JM’s present Dominican line, in Connecticut shade,  Sumatran, and broadleaf  maduro wrappers.  The Corojo line is now available from JM Tobacco in boxes of 50 cigars.  The eye-catching presentation is the same recognizable packaging as the iconic black-on-yellow JM’s Dominican box art, but with black letters on a red background.

JM’s Dominican Corojo is now available in the same eight shapes as the other JM’s Dominicans, and is competitively priced, as are all other JM cigars.

Company Profile:

Family-owned JM Tobacco Company was founded in 1994 by John Mahroukian.  The company imports and distributes its natural and flavored premium cigars, plus its new line of JM’s Hookah tobaccos, through retail tobacco stores across the United States and Europe.  Its corporate headquarters are in Los Angeles, California, with a cigar factory in the Dominican Republic.  Mahroukian’s son, Anto, currently serves as company president.

JM Tobacco Adds New JM’s Dominican Honeys Cigar Line

FOR RELEASES :

June 20, 2009

“Business has never been better,” reports Anto Mahroukian, president of JM Tobacco Company, producer of premium cigars and recently, JM’s Hookah tobaccos.  According to Mahroukian, “With the economic downturn, everyday cigar smokers are buying three or four value-priced cigars like our JM’s Dominican line, instead of one super-premium cigar.  After they try a few of ours, they tell us and our retailers, ‘Why haven’t I been smoking these all along?’  Our cigars are made of top-quality tobaccos, but their Cuban sandwich bunching … combining long- and short-filler leaves, reduces their price and still delivers a surprisingly opulent smoke.”

The latest product from JM Tobacco is their new JM’s Dominican Honeys line, offered in a 5.5″ x 42 Corona, with a Sumatran wrapper.  (Regular JM’s Dominican cigars come in eight sizes and in Sumatran, Connecticut and Maduro wrappers.)  Three selections are available, all with popular honey-dipped heads … the Honey, Honey Vanilla, and Honey Rum.  Like the regular JM’s Dominican line, the cigars’ heads are pre-cut as a convenience to the smoker.  JM’s Dominican Honeys are presented 24 to the box, opposed to the standard 50/box packaging for the JM’s Dominican line.  (The latter’s Gordo and Gordo Grande have 24 cigars to the box, due to their 62-ring gauge.)  Pricing for JM’s Dominican Honeys follows the company’s philosophy of offering top-quality hand-rolled cigars at value pricing … MSRP is $60 per box of 24, or $2.50 per cigar.  Mahroukian says retailers are reporting these new cigars, introduced earlier this year, are already becoming popular with their customers.

Instead of cutting back during the present hard times, JM Tobacco has expanded their factory in Licey, Santiago, Dominican Republic, by 10%, to 15,000 square feet.  Mahroukian explains, “The new area will be mainly used for tobacco storage.  We can now also ferment leaves there, which gives us extra latitude in our manufacturing process.”

JM Tobacco is showing the new JM’s Dominican Honeys, as well as their other cigar lines and hookah tobacco, at booth #1855 at IPCPR 2009.  All products are currently available from the company.

JM Tobacco Has a Gift for New Retailers: JM’s Combo Sampler

FOR RELEASES :

October 30, 2009

Anto Mahroukian, president of JM Tobacco, describes his company’s new JM’s Combo sampler: “It is a free gift for first-time JM retailers,” he explains, “so they can experience the extraordinary value in our JM’s Dominican Value-Priced cigars … especially attractive in today’s difficult economy.  Its launch coincides with the holiday season, boosting their sales to premium cigar lovers.”

JM’s Combo is an eighteen-cigar boxed sampler, holding six each of the company’s three popular blends, in Sumatra, Connecticut, and (Connecticut) Maduro wrappers.  Their filler and binder are well-aged Cuban-seed leaf, grown in the Dominican Republic.

Hand-rolled with 100% tobacco, the cigars are available in the 6″ x 50 Toro shape, with Churchill and Corona sizes planned to follow.  The Sumatra and Connecticut blends are presented in the JM Dominicans’ iconic and eye-catching black-on-yellow boxes, while the Maduro color scheme is reversed, in yellow on black.

According to Mahroukian, “We’re confident JM’s Combo will prove a great investment for JM’s retailers, as they gain acceptance with smokers.  Value-priced JM’s Dominicans have boosted our sales, as every-day smokers seek out more affordable cigars, without sacrificing rich, smooth flavor.  This has been a banner year for JM Tobacco, as the price, quality, and performance of our cigars are suited perfectly to this economic downturn.”

The company is now shipping JM’s Combo to its new retailers, and is accepting orders for resale to smokers.  MSRP is $50 per box of eighteen cigars.

Mahroukian’s son, Anto, currently serves as company president.
